RescYOU cape

There are plans for a new ship for refugees which should be launched in 2023. The support of UNESCO is intended, they also wrote several articles about this new ship. The project was about creating a welcome kit for the refugees on the ship.

Therefore we talked and listened to the stories of refugees who fled their land over water and land and shared their experiences with us. One of them told us "I had to throw away my sleeping bag, so that we did not get caught. For a few nights I had to sleep on the ground in the forests. It was ice cold. I really don't want to think about that again."

The core of the project was the following question:

How can we make refugees arriving at the ship feel more welcome?

  •  Safety
  •  Warmth
  •  Empowerment

So we developed a concept to give them the feeling of being welcome and having something that keeps them warm to always bring it with them - the "RescYOU Cape", which can be worn as backpack, cape and be transformed into a sleeping bag:

Another input from a refugee we talked to was the information, that mothers are afraid to lose their children. "Mothers grasp their kids so they don't get lost."  Therefore the parents' cape can be connected with the kid's cape. Families and couples can connect two or more capes so that they can create a private space for themselves.
